Facebook’s Censorship Racket is a Surveillance-Capitalist Nightmare – Time to Break the Monopoly & Reclaim the Digital Commons
When a single hoodie-wearing billionaire controls the digital public square, the voiceless pay the price while the grifters cash in.
Listen up, truth-seekers: It's crystal clear that Facebook – that digital panopticon run by Mark Zuckerberg's hoodie empire – is straight-up censoring voices on the flimsiest, most ambiguous "violations" imaginable. We're talking posts about HIV & Domestic Violence getting nuked faster than you can say "community standards." And don't get me started on how this blatant thumb on the scale screams a breach of the First Amendment spirit. Sure, Zuck's lawyers will whine "private company, bro," but when your "public square" silences dissent to prop up the fakestream narrative? That's not free market – that's fascist cosplay.
Facebook’s algorithm doesn’t just “moderate” – it systematically silences independent voices and the lived experience of real grassroots people. People living with HIV who speak hard truths about organisational bullying, politicised treatment access, Big Pharma conflicts of interest, or institutional stigma have their pages, profiles and posts vanish overnight. Grassroots organisers, disability advocates, and anyone surviving week-to-week without a Porsche are shadow-banned into digital poverty while fashionistas flogging $800 hoodies and fakestream misinformational garbage dominate every feed. That’s not a bug – that’s the business model.
And then – with the cold-blooded cheek that used car salesperson muster when selling wrecks – Facebook slides in the “Boost this post!” button. Pay us to maybe show or only seem to show your post to the audience you already built. It’s pay-to-play in what was sold to us as the people’s town square. That’s not empowerment; that’s a protection racket with better branding.
If Facebook can shadowban your granny's cat memes while hawking "boosted" posts that vanish into the void... who's really getting played? Are facebook the scammers they warn us about?
Meanwhile, every click, every private message, every desperate 3 a.m. scroll is harvested, packaged, and (allegedly) sold into behavioural futures markets. Facebook isn’t just watching us – it’s monetising our pain, our hope, our lives, and selling it to the highest bidder. As Shoshana Zuboff put it:
“Surveillance capitalism unilaterally claims human experience as free raw material for translation into behavioural data… sold into behavioural futures markets.”
Facebook is Patient Zero.
– Shoshana Zuboff, The Age of Surveillance Capitalism
Grief becomes their profit. Hope becomes a data point. Your emotion becomes their targeting parameter. And when something goes wrong – when your account is disabled for no reason, when a post disappears into the void, when the algorithm mistakes satire for “hate speech” – there is nobody to talk to. No phone number. Emails that never gets answered. Not even a half-decent AI chatbot to plead your case to. Just a soulless automated notice with broken appeal links that lead to 404 pages and a polite “we’ve reviewed your case and the decision is final.”
They send you hate mail signed “The Facebook Team” and then vanish like ghosts. That’s not a bug. That’s the feature.
But wait, it gets juicier – Facebook's entire empire is built on hoovering up your data like a black hole on steroids: every like, poke, and midnight scroll sold to the highest bidder for targeted psyops. Cambridge Analytica? That was just the tip of Zuck's iceberg. Ex-Facebook insider Sandy Parakilas spilled the beans in 2018: “Utterly horrifying... Once the data left Facebook servers there was not any control, and there was no insight into what was going on.” Hundreds of millions harvested, weaponized, and flipped for profit – all while they peddle "ads" that deliver squat. If that's not the textbook definition of a scam – the kind your Mum warns you about at the pub – then what is? Facebook isn't a platform; it's a data vampire sucking the life out of democracy for shareholder shekels.
People are finally waking up. Not with loud declarations or dramatic “I’m deleting Facebook!” profiles – they’re just… stopping. The feeds are going quiet. The stories drying up. Millions are still technically “on” the platform, but they’ve gone dark, silently migrating to smaller spaces where they can speak without the Mockingbirds standing on the scale.
The exodus has already begun. And those who understand the true scale of the beast know exactly why. Sadly, as Elon Musk Says:
“The public still doesn’t understand even a tiny fraction of the power of the censorship government-industrial complex.”
– Elon Musk, 2024
“I am continuing to monitor the censorship of AMERICAN CITIZENS on social media platforms… This is the United States of America — and we have what’s known as FREEDOM OF SPEECH! We are monitoring and watching, closely!!”
– President Donald J. Trump, 2019
We’re watching too, Mr President – watching to see if those fine words finally turn into action this time and waiting for the child-trafficking networks and Epstein-adjacent predators still operating openly to finally feel the hammer.
Australia can no longer sit this out. Australians are demanding EU-style privacy laws with real teeth: automatic, crushing fines for every undelivered ad, every shadowban, every breach of trust, every scam. If Facebook sells reach it chooses not to deliver, then treat it as fraud and make it hurt, a lot.
Even Zuck himself admitted the rot in 2018: “We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can't then we don't deserve to serve you.” Yeah, Mark? Then step aside – you've already cashed your betrayal check.
Nationalize Facebook Australia outright: bring Facebook Australia under public-community governance, get rid of the dead wood and return the public square to the people. Turn it into a citizen-run fortress: no more foreign overlords or eKarens meddling in our discourse, real user input on moderation (not some unelected algo overlord), and zero tolerance for the national security dumpster fire that is Zuck's spy-state setup. Foreign election meddlers? Data leaks to adversaries? This isn't just creepy – it's a clear and present danger Down Under.
And across the Pacific, the monopoly must be broken. Split Facebook from Instagram. Force Mark Zuckerberg to sell. Transform the wreckage into genuinely accountable, democratically governed digital public square infrastructure where lived-experience and genuine grassorts voices, not bots, are amplified, not erased.
“Only a crisis – actual or perceived – produces real change.”
The crisis is here. The change is overdue.
– Naomi Klein
For digital justice.
For the voiceless.
For a people-powered internet.
Break the monopoly. Reclaim the commons.
The time is NOW.
Facebook’s algorithm doesn’t moderate — it erases. Time to break the monopoly.
